Colour options on composite doors
From their introduction to the UK market in 1996, composite doors have taken Britain by storm. They not only offer superior security and energy efficiency than wooden doors, but also come in a large range of colours. In this blog, you'll learn what advantages coloured composite doors have over painted wooden doors, and what colour options are available to you.
Composite door colour benefits vs wooden doors
- No repainting required - Colour is added to a composite door during manufacture, and because of its resilient GRP skin, you won't need to repaint it. Wooden doors on the other had require painting to add colour, which can peel or chip for various reasons.
- Easier to clean - It only takes lightly soapy water and a clean cloth to wipe down a composite door, without fear of it losing colour. Painted wooden doors may not be as resilient as composites, and so may require regular touching up to maintain the same level of newness.
- Weather resistant - Purposely built for the British weather, a composite is resistant to rain and sunlight, which for an unprotected wooden door can cause warping as well as peeling of paint.
- Easy to touch up - As the GRP skin of a composite door can withstand day-to-day use, it does not scratch easily. However, should this skin chip or scratch, it can be touched up with a specialised pen or paint. Painted wooden doors may require more care, as they lack the robust GRP skin of a composite door.

- White - Our cheapest option. Perfect as an interior colour.
- Black - Excellent for creating contrast.
- Red - A traditional dark red tone.
- Green - A traditional dark green, also known as Fir Green.
- Blue - A traditional dark blue.
- Rosewood - One of our woodgrains, dark in tone.
- Oak - Our other woodgrain, lighter than Rosewood.

- Anthracite Grey - Perfect for formal and contemporary doors.
- Slate Grey - A lighter finish than Anthracite Grey.
- Aubergine - A regal dark purple.
- Cream - A pale and warm tone.
- Olive - Perfect for cottage styles. Also known as French Grey.
- Chartwell green - A calming light green.
- Duck Egg Blue - A pastel blue with green tint.
- Pebble - An off-white, earthy grey.

- Frames come in the same finishes - The same range of finishes are available for our frames as the doors.
- New toplights and side panels also have the same finishes - We use the same range of colours and profiles in toplights and side panels as for doors, which is why upgrading your toplight or side panel is a good idea when replacing your old door with a composite.

- Chartwell green stands out - One of our most popular finishes is our pastel Chartwell Green, good for creating a calming presence.
- Anthracite Grey for modern homes - The dark Anthracite Grey creates an autorative tone without being as overpowering as Black. It is perfect suited to modern composite door styles.
- Woodgrains for organic appeal - Rosewood and Oak emulate the appearance of natural wood, making composite in these colours an easy replacement to wooden doors.
- White of inside - As an internal colour, White helps to keep the inner hallway bright, and is favoured by the majority of customers.
