The most used part of any door, we often take the handle for granted, not aware how it plays a key role in day-to-day use. In this blog, you'll learn not only what handles we offer, but also what functionality is available, and how different handles can co-ordinate with Composite door & UPVC door styles.
What composite & UPVC door handles are available?
Lever Handles
Traditional and familiar, our lever handles are standard with Composite doors and UPVC doors, and available in a selection of styles.

Superior range handles

Our standard range of handles for Composite doors, and an upgrade for UPVC doors:
- Balmoral lever handle - Our default Composite door handle.
Available in lever/lever and split spindle configurations.
- Lever Lever Rock Door handle - The Rock Door equivalent and default.
- Swan lever handle - A curved alternative to the Balmoral, well-suited to traditional style doors.
ONLY available in a lever/lever configuration. - Lever Pad handle - The outer handle is a round pad and requires a key to enter, making it ideal for security; the inside handle is the Balmoral lever, and allows for easy exiting.
ONLY available as a split spindle configuration. - Ultion Nuki Smart Handle - Working not only as a traditional lever handle, the Ultion Nuki Smart Handle can operate in a variety of was, from key fob access to control by mobile app.
Batteries/charging required. Certain features may require extra accessories/applications.
Pull Handles
These handles operate by pulling rather than the common lever function, and offer a stylish alternative to lever handles.
Heritage Lock pull handle
(Composite only)
An escutcheon with an integrated grip, it is set higher on the door than a standard lever handle,. It goes particularly well with traditional composite doors and 1930s composite doors.
Bar Handles
(Composite only)
Robust vertical handles designed for modern composite doors. The escutcheon is seperate from the handle, which is available round or flat in select sizes:
- Round Bar Handle - 600mm | 900mm | 1200mm | 1500mm
- Flat Bar Handle - 400mm | 900mm | 1500mm
Pull knob
(Composite only)
Considered more of an accessory than a functioning handle, as it does not include an escutcheon. Its function is either ornamental in traditional composite doors or 1930s composite doors, or to act as leverage to help with the opening of a door.
Sliding patio pull handle
A P-shaped handle specific to UPVC Sliding Patio Doors, it allows the user to easily slide a large panel.
Types of door handle functionality
- Lever/lever - A manual locking method, requiring the handle to be lifted in order to fully engage the locking mechanisms. A key is required to lock the door.
- Split spindle - An automatic locking method, the door can lock simply by closing it. However, the ensure that the door is fully secure, one should lift the handle to engage the locking mechanisms and use a key to fully lock the door.
- Slam lock - An automatic locking method, it is used for pull handles rather than lever type handles. Closing the door autmomatically locks it.
- Smart handle - A handle that can be operated by means of technology, such as an app on a smart phone. Handles such as the Ultion Nuki Smart Handle can also be operated and locked manually.
- Ornamental - A handle that does not operate a locking mechanism or have an escutcheon to do so, thus cannot be ordered alone. In the case of a pull knob, it can be purtely decorative, or used to aid in opening a heavy door.
Finishes for door handles
Chrome door handles
- Our default finish, this polished metal can bring out the newness of your door.
Gold door handles
- For standard handles, the finish has a slightly brushed look.
- For superior handles, the finish is polished, just like Chrome.
White door handles
- A glossy white that provides a more opaque finish than Chrome or Gold.
Black door handles
- Good for creating contrast, Black is anopther opaque and glossy finish, ideal for traditional and modern styles alike.
Graphite Silver door handles
- A dark brushed metal that gives modern doors an industrial look.
Antique Black door handles
- This pitted black finish adds rustic charm to traditional and cottage style doors.
Stainless Steel door handles
- A brushed metal well-suited to contemporary composite doors.
How to care for door handles
- Remove jewellery before cleaning - Bracelets and rings can scratch surfaces, so it is best to remove these before attempting to clean your handles.
- Warm water and a clean cloth - It should take no more than these to restore the sparkle and newness to your handles.
- Oil moving parts - Apply engineering oil to moving mechanisms to ensure they operate smoothly. This is particulaly important in homes located near coasts or industrial sites, as hardware is more likely to be exposed to abrasive minerals.
- Check that locks engage - For lever handles, lift the handle and check that the locking points from top to bottom work correctly.
- Charge and calibrate your smart handles - Check that your Ultion Nuki Smart Handle is sufficiently charged. While the Nuki Smart Handle is auto-calibrated on initial set-up, you may wish to re-calibrate your Nuki handles.
